Funny School, first IPC school in Kazakhstan
Funny School is the first IPC school in Kazakhstan. As member of the International Preschool Curriculum (IPC), we are part of the world’s largest international association of preschools.
The IPC’s and Funny School’s objectives are to raise standards in preschool education and better prepare children for primary schooling years. With a focus on internationalism, it is expected that all students that obtain the IPC certificate will have a bilingual understanding.
Our program consists of thematic units that are based on high quality early childhood education. Since these units integrate the Kazakhstani educational standards, at the end of their preschool, our students are able to choose from the best local or international schools.
Funny School provides a safe environment where children can learn. By “safe” we don’t just mean only about security guards or cameras that we have in school, we mean about the school’s atmosphere, the school’s culture. Funny School is a place where children are encouraged to try out and discover new things. They feel safe to do so because they know they are supported and guided by our educators in their learning journey. In our school, students are rewarded for being curious and wanting to explore. This setting makes them enthusiastic motivated learners.
We offer our students a play-based environment and we provide materials that encourage exploration and questions throughout the classroom. We plan learning experiences so that they are connected conceptually. Through inquiry, we help children answer their own questions as spontaneous opportunities occur by asking open-ended questions and planning open-ended activities that encourage children to describe, compare, predict, and explain.
Our extra-curricular activities contribute much to the development of our students as well. We offer many afternoon activities such as Music, Drama, Wushu, Dance, and Swimming.
Funny School has excellent facilities. Children have opportunities to learn in spacious, well-equipped classrooms that have a variety of age-appropriate materials including art, music, science, language, mathematics, puzzles, dramatic play and building materials. The school has a 4’ X 7’ swimming pool as well.
It is a well-known fact that there is a strong link between preschool attendance and children’s
success and progress in school. Children who attend preschool typically enter primary school with increased cognitive abilities, increased literacy and mathematics skills, and tend to get along better with others than children who do not attend preschool. Children who attend preschool are also more likely to progress through the grades successfully with lower retention rates, fewer special education placements and are more likely to graduate than peers who did not experience preschool prior to kindergarten.

Making the right choice of Early Learning Centre for your Child
Choosing an Early Learning Centre for your child can be a difficult decision to make! In Astana alone, many kindergartens have recently appeared. Now, how do you know if you are looking at a high quality preschool? What does it look like? Is it just a nice looking building with lots of toys inside? Of course not!
First, look at who teaches children. The curriculum of the school is certainly important, but first and foremost, your child will connect with the homeroom teacher, not the curriculum. The credentials of a teacher always are a testimony of quality. A staff well trained in early childhood with caring teachers has tremendous influence on the school’s environment. And there are other clues you can look for. For example, how does the teacher interact with children? Does he or she form close relationships with students and families? Does the teacher have high-expectations? High quality preschools have high expectations for their students.
Secondly, how does the classroom look? Does it encourage the growth of children physically, emotionally and intellectually? Do teachers work with individual, small groups and the whole group at different times during the day? Is the class decorated with children’s art work? That is such a fantastic way to foster and strengthen children’s self-esteem. Here, at Funny School, not only do the classrooms are decorated with students work, but the whole school as well. It’s always a pleasure to see parents and family members taking the time to look at different pieces of work when they come to drop off or pick up their child.
Finally, yes, look at the curriculum. It is an essential part of learning as a high quality curriculum will focus on the development of the child as a whole. The curriculum needs to feature a balance between teacher-initiated and child-initiated activities. It needs as well to integrate subjects as an integrated curriculum focuses on basic skills, content and higher level thinking. It encourages lifelong learning too. Our IPC program is structured around themes, big ideas and meaningful concepts for children. It provides connections among various subjects.
Funny School is a family oriented institution with a familial atmosphere and culture. But I’m not sure the word institution is accurate. I would rather use the expression “second home”, at least that’s the feedback we get from our students and parents. We have succeeded in creating an environment that positively impacts young children and parents. If you have made the right choice of Early Learning Centre for you and your child, you will both look forward to going to school. That’s exactly the case for the families who joined us!
